Removal Cancelled at Snowstorm in 2013 Removal Cancelled at Snowstorm in 2013

(Reno) Last week more documents were filed in the ongoing legal saga of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) ten year removal plan of wild horses from the Owyhee Complex in northern Nevada.

Laura Leigh, President and founder of Wild Horse Education, alleges that wild horse removals are unlawful at the Owyhee Complex due to insufficient data and analysis of available data. Leigh also asserts that at removals that occurred under this plan have violated First Amendment notions.

In documents filed last week through Leigh’s attorneys, Danielle Holt and Michael Beede, Leigh moves these claims forward as allowed by the court.

“Because the plaintiff may reasonably expect that the same agency conduct would likely repeat in other areas of the Owyhee Complex during the ten-year EA as that outlined in paragraphs 11-13, 15-16, 18-28 and 32-33, and which also causes inhumane methods and conditions…

Fleet of Angels, TMR Rescue & Wild Horse Freedom Federation combine efforts to save wild burros destined for Guatemala

Wonderful news for 11 burros.

Straight from the Horse's Heart

11 once wild burros are safe from a future as beasts of burden, possible abuse and most likely death from being sent to Guatemala (where the BLM had planned to ship them).

In a joint effort by Fleet of Angels (thanks Elaine Nash and all the volunteers!), TMR Rescue, and Wild Horse Freedom Federation, these 11 burros are on their way to their new home at TMR Rescue.  They are being transported by Terry Fitch (co-founder and Treasurer of Wild Horse Freedom Federation) and Marjorie Farabee (Dir. of Wild Horse Affairs for Wild Horse Freedom Federation and Mgr. of TMR Rescue).

Marjorie thought you’d all like to see a few photos.

BLM & some “nuisance” ranchers deceive American taxpayers

The BLM seems to act in collusion with ranchers when it actively advises ranchers to send letters of complaint to them to remove “nuisance” wild horses from private property. #Justice4mustangs

On October, 16, 2014, the Bureau of Land Management Ely District in Nevada issued a news release announcing that in early November, it would begin a roundup to remove “approximately 120 excess wild horses from in and around the Triple B and Silver King Herd Management Areas (HMAs) in eastern Nevada.” And “The helicopter gathers are necessary to prevent further damage to private property and provide for public and animal safety.”

For one thing, per BLM’swebsite, “Nevada is an open range state.  It is the responsibility of the private land owner to build a legal fence to keep livestock off private land.”

Let’s take a closer look at what this news release did and didn’t say.

As many of you are aware, the BLM was going to send 189 burros to Guatemala after removing them from their homes. There is an effort underway to keep the Guatemala 189 burros in the US. At last count, only 25 remain without homes. We bring this to your attention because our president, John Holland, will be the proud owner of one of the burros. John has been heartbroken since he lost Selina (pictured above) so we are trying to help with the efforts in Selina’s memory.

For more information on adopting a burro and the BLM adoption paperwork, visit the facebook page here or contact Elaine Nash, holdyourhorses@aol.com.

Please share and help turn this into the Guatemala 0.

Wisconsin Trophy Hunters Slaughter 91 Wolves in 5 days, Go Over Limit In Two Zones

Howling For Justice

UPDATE: October 21, 2014

The numbers changed today on the DNR 2014 “wolf harvest”. It’s now 92 wolves dead but the numbers have moved around on the chart.  Hmmmm. Notice there is one less dead wolf in Zone 1, where trophy hunters went over the legal limit. Yesterday the number  of wolves killed in that zone was 37, now it’s 36. So one dead wolf was moved from Zone 1 and added to Zone 3.  Also notice that it says “Zones will close when quotas are reached”. So how did they allow so many wolves to die above the legal limit?  It’s bad enough there is a hunt at all but hunters in Zone 2 killed FOURTEEN more wolves than they were supposed to. And in Zone 1 they killed 5 wolves, now it’s been changed to 4, over the legal limit. That’s 18 dead wolves who shouldn’t…
